secret detours to your dreams

Hey familia,

This week’s show stems from the frustration of feeling forced to take an indirect route to our dreams and the fear that comes up from seemingly walking “the other way”.

Ready to dive in? Skip this full post and listen to the new episode, below:

Our habits and the pathways we’ve created over time, even in our hearts, can be created from fear, depression, or angst.

These may really weigh on us!

This can be challenging when we really want to feel light.

How can I transform my own DNA to be more light-like? When I come from heavy stuff? When my family, the way I grew up, my blood and kinship son pesados?

When you can’t get out of your feelings or sadness?

It can feel like you're trapped in a rut.

So when your dream finally shows up in waking life, the goal you’ve been working towards…

When you finally see your version of Disney World for the first time, it’s natural to run straight towards the gates and say I’m here! Let’s go! Let me TF in!

We think that the solution lays in the shortest and most direct route. Run right at it. This makes logical sense.

And yet, there’s another way.

Detours can be perceived as flaky or even irresponsible.

When you’re stuck, however, it’s sometimes wiser to take that detour. Go right. Veer left. Roll under and out. Even if for a little while. You create new momentum, new traction, and new patterns.

And sometimes, mija, that in and of itself is the point.

This can be confusing because you know your dreams, your path, your vision. You’ve uncovered what you really want.

So wait, the road to Rome isn’t straight?

If you’ve been following this show, then you’ve heard me say before that dreams are directions, not destinations. One of the challenging insights I’m still coming to terms with is that sometimes our dreams are signposts inviting us to move North, but not necessarily to stay at the North Pole.

Living with what can be perceived as crushed, empty, or unfulfilled dreams can feel soul-crushing as if your own inner wisdom and the God of your understanding have somehow betrayed you.

I get it.

Because we’re really talking about 2 things here. On one hand, it’s having the resourcefulness to go around, to choose another way, and to trust that the ground won’t fall apart beneath your feet. Especially when the journey has been long, hard and you are so close.

On the other hand, it’s reconciling and releasing all the moments your dreams, or others, have somehow failed you such that you CAN be resourceful, without being resentful. Understanding that the goal may morph, and just like people, places, and things in our lives, change.

These insights, like the conscious detours the universe frequently provides, are less linear and more circular in their approach. They’re detours from your normal way of thinking.

You can go straight for your dreams.

And sometimes, strategically, it makes more sense to go another way.

Life frequently sends us on detours.

You, in all your growing wisdom, can take that detour early on, yourself.

Adaptability is important. Being resourceful is key.

Be willing to go left, go right, go back if need be. If it means getting unstuck, if it means leveraging the ways of the universe—i.e. intentional and conscious detours— then you may be playing God in your own life, in a good way.

How you do anything is how you do everything.

Choose a gentler path and learn to harvest from all conditions. So you can choose the ones that most adequately fit who you in the deepest of senses.

Thank you for being here. I’ll see you next week.
