4 lessons in 2021 that completely changed my life.

Happy Friday fam,

This is a post rich with lots of goodies. It’s 12:13 AM when I’m writing it. It’s likely to get sentimental.

Firstly, I’m sharing 4 valuable lessons I learned in the last 12 months. Each lesson comes with an italicized question for reflection. Journal or meditate on each question for deeper insight.

Secondly, scroll to the bottom for a bonus round-up of fantastic Instagram posts packed with valuable insights. If you’d like to follow me on Instagram too, I’d be honoured.

Let's dive in!

1 Let go of what you know and be true gratitude.

For all of 2020, I was sick with an ongoing, chronic, mystery illness. Like most of us, I was also isolated due to COVID.

It was one of the most confusing, painful, and lonely times of my life. It forced me to face excruciating pain, heightened emotional duress, and physical immobility.

For the first time in my life, I considered what it would mean to die at a young age. Tears streaming down my face, I reflected on my life experiences.

A sense of peace came over me. Compassion.

For close to a decade, I thought, I silently and relentlessly beat myself up for being a ‘failure’ in specific areas of my life.

But was that true?

At that moment, I saw my life's moments through a new lens of fullness.

I had…

Experienced epic love, the kind written about in novels. For 8 years I was committed to someone who’s still a dear friend, today.

Dedicated my life to freedom, love, and service. I was brave. I genuinely helped thousands of people through writing, teaching, speaking, and being.

Lived in 80% of the most fantastic cities around the world. I was bold.

Been a solid friend and outstanding parent.

My life was full.

I let go. I wasn’t a failure. I was grateful.

Q: What new perspective can you give to an old or heavy narrative in your life? Where can you infuse your identity with greater power?

2 Focus. Give yourself the necessary time, resources, and grace to succeed.

You have something important to say. It takes time and practice to a) figure out what you’re actually trying to convey and b) be compelling in your delivery.

Don’t quit before the miracle happens, before it works. Keep practicing. Keep creating. Keep delivering.

Everyone looks and sounds “bad” without practice. This is inevitable. Be willing to be bad in order to be phenomenal.

Q: What are you quitting too soon? Where are you starving a project or idea by denying it the support it requires to truly thrive?

3 Say no.

This takes bravery.

Determine what diminishes your power and authority.

Manage your focus and who/what you give access to your time, attention, and energy.

Begin to say no.

You can also set strong, silent boundaries.

Q: What person, place, or thing diminishes your power? How can you better manage that situation?

4 Prioritize healing.

It starts with Self. The body is the temple through which you move and experience life. It’s also a source of power and confidence.

Prioritize your health.

If you’ve been struggling with any chronic disease or imbalance, address it. You will unleash a world of opportunity and reserves of power the more deeply you heal.

You got this.

Q: Where are you minimizing the importance of your health in all its forms? Why are you doing this?

Happy holidays,

Lalita
