Ep. 18: If You Wanna Be Somebody, Stand Up and Pay Attention
Hey fam,
We’re back with another episode of Lila! Let’s dive in!
Sister Act 2 probably said it best when they sang: “if you wanna be somebody if you wanna go somewhere, you better wake up and pay attention.”
The noise around you might be really loud. And amplify that by the emotions you feel internally and it suddenly feels like you’re drowning. Where do your dreams and your own life inside you belong?
Listen to the full episode here.
This episode is my best attempt at the time to demonstrate that when we look at the loudest people or energies in a room, we miss what’s sitting in the corner. We miss what connects and guides us. A solid practice when you see someone “screaming” or being loud (literally or metaphorically), is to look to the left or right. Not to dismiss what’s in front of you. But to see what else is there.
Until we become clear about what’s true for us and what we’re looking at, our journey to our dreams will be weary and muddled. We'll be distracted by hate for others, a feeling of lack and confusion at where we belong.
I heard a friend share that this country was never made for him. And I have deep compassion and reverence for his suffering. I also offer up the idea that we only don’t belong when we live in other people’s values and worlds. Realizing it’s unlikely we truly understand what their values are.
We always belong in our dreams. We always belong because we are.
Other peoples’ views may sting, deeply, and scar, and the truth is that we always have a seat at the table. Because we are the table. And we are the seat, friends.
I believe in you. I believe in your dreams; that both if you are here for a purpose, a reason. And that these dreams come to you to dance with you and be a safe haven for growth. So believe in their presence.
As always, thank you for listening and being part of this community. Your presence makes a BIG difference.
Big hugs,
Lalita
