Why Do People Ignore You?
VIBE: BE STILL AND KNOW
Hey creative with a higher purpose,
Feeling rejected, ignored and like your voice can barely reach the back walls of your innermost sanctuaries… this feeling of oppression is enough to suffocate event the brightest of intentions.
In a hurry? Be still and know and dive into this week's new episode, here.
Andra Day sings it beautifully in her classic empowerment single, Rise Up:
And I’ll rise up
I’ll do it 1000 times again
All we need
All we need
Is hope
We will rise…. (Andra Day, Rise Up)
There are 1 million reasons that our voices are buried, hidden, and disguised as well-meaning intentions, lost at the feet of our dreams and shuffled amidst broken hearts, loss efforts, and failed clients.
We come to believe that our clients, failed proposals, lack of followers and loss of love are somehow related to our fledgling self-worth. As if we could somehow just be more valuable, more anything, then people maybe would listen.
Should I speak with more authority?
Follow the latest social media trends? I must not be talking about the right topics.
Or maybe if I better explained myself in a new way, my partner would change how they treat me?
Dive into this week's powerful episode, here.
Oppression is real. People in the world can be cruel, especially in their ignorance.
They may miss your best work, comment in a way that hurts, or not hire you. They may outwardly hate you for who they believe you to be.
For that, I am deeply sorry and can relate.
Would-be-loves might glide past you as hopeful, whimsical wishes that never actually flourish to bear fruit.
This eats at your spirit, the seat of your true voice. The place where your gifts reside as a leader.
You may be heartbroken, even silently, under the weight of other people’s expectations.
And the ones others never seem to meet in your life.
What I know to be true is that the first place I lost my voice was within me.
It doesn’t matter how loud you yell, how smart, right or charismatic you are, or what latest trends you adopt on social media to bring your voice to the world if who you are is hidden.
You can have 1 million followers and be hiding in plain sight.
You can be in a long-term relationship and never know who you truly are.
You can “make it” only to feel like a fraud.
This week’s episode addresses hidden voices.
It addresses why other people ignore you. And while I encourage you to look within at how you muffle your voice, this is in no way blameful.
Freeing your voice doesn’t mean the people in front of you suddenly hear you, pay attention or follow your advice. It means the world around you changes. It means a new path opens up before you, what some people like to call strategy.
Your gift as a creative with a higher purpose is to bring your voice to the world to serve, lead, and empower. To be a beacon of light during times yet unseen.
This requires that you are bravely present and that before you ask another to listen to and believe in you— client, spouse, or follower—that you dig deep to listen to and believe in yourself.
As your first fan, your primary client, and the highest recipient of what is often hard-won wisdom.
Your voice counts.
Listen, mija.
