What is Emotional Unavailability and Can it Kill Your Dreams?

Hey fam,

Before we dive into this episode (scroll to the bottom for the link and journal prompts), let me first address the reason I believe many of you are here. And the intention for this show and body of work moving forward.

If you're in a hurry, and just want the Lila goods, jump into this week's episode, here:

Years ago, I made my living across sales, partnerships, and branding in the marketing and tech spaces.

Over time, and throughout my own healing journey, I’ve had the pleasure of bringing powerful voices and people to the world across courses, websites, online content, and more.

Clients include the best and brightest of TED, NYT best-selling authors, and brilliant coaches and creatives.

It’s an honor.

Recent Lila episodes are the culmination and the source of what I know to be true as it pertains to bringing your true Self, your body of work, and your voice to the world.

Steven Pressfield, in the classic text War of Art, was one of the first authors I witnessed who addressed the multitude of ways we divert ourselves from our dreams.

It isn’t enough to know technology, tactics, and trends. What endures is who you are.

What lives on is how people feel in your presence and their ability to trust you, which is directly linked to your ability to trust yourself.

I say this because many of you have been with me for close to a decade. It’s truly a joy, which is why stating my intention is so pivotal and precisely important.

What I'm creating moving forward is a combination of my voice, taking my own medicine so to speak, and following what I’ve been teaching for years. It’s also medicine for you. It’s my experience, it’s wisdom and it’s proof of how to bring you, your voice and your work, your dreams, to the world.

I spent years in the throws of PTSD joining business courses and masterminds trying to make myself into somebody and someone.

But I lacked, me.

I couldn’t see and value, myself.

It always starts with SELF. This is at the core of the branding work I’ve had the graces of accomplishing over this last decade. As I continue to expand and transform how I serve, I’m grateful you’re on this journey with me.

Acknowledge what I share here for your sake and your growth. Try it on. Test it. If it works, pay it forward and pass it on to a friend (or ten).

This is a movement of SELF.

And it feels important to declare and to catch each of you up.

Thank you for your support all these years. I’m so excited to continue to grow and serve alongside you.

Now onto today’s episode!

Dive into this week's episode, here.

We’re talking emotional unavailability.

When someone is absent emotionally, it means they are unable to meet your needs. It means they have a journey to heal that they have not yet taken or have not yet completed.

It’s a trap to engage in these relationships and yet many of us still do it. We try to save others or do for them what they won’t do for themselves.

The truth is that this experience can be both traumatic and act as a very complex way of not growing up. And of hiding your voice, your dreams, and your work from the world.

It’s important to name and know your enemies. Emotionally unavailable people are one of them. If you struggle in relationships, now or ever, this episode is for you. The cost isn’t the relationship, Mija. I want this to be so clear.

The true cost of engaging with emotionally unavailable or immature people (same thing) is not the loss of the relationship.

It’s your dreams.

It’s your self-esteem.

It’s your power.

You require all three of these things to thrive. How is a creative with a higher purpose going to live their calling if they out here messin’ with boo-boo the clown?

This is relevant to you, today because many sensitive creatives with a higher calling are deeply attuned to others.

We’re here to serve humanity and be human. Emotional unavailability in other people can be kryptonite to those who feel deeply.

You will waste your time trying to inspire the other person or prove your worth, instead of building your message for those who would benefit the most from hearing it.

Thank you!

Big hugs,

Lalita
